Mary Jo Wright, MD FACS/ASPS
Dr. Wright joins the Alaska Breast and Cosmetic Center and Alaska Cancer Treatment Center from El Paso, Texas, bringing more than 20 years of experience as a surgeon. She has dedicated her career to making women feel whole again following partial breast removal, mastectomies, and other cancer-related procedures. Her vast expertise in breast reconstruction has helped restore the self-image of hundreds of women.
Dr. Wright is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular biology. After finishing her medical education at St. Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Wright completed her general surgery residency at Louisiana State University, New Orleans. In addition, she completed fellowships in trauma/critical care surgery (Parkland Hospital, Dallas TX), breast cancer surgery (Memorial Sloan-Kettering, NY) and plastic/reconstructive surgery (Tulane University School of Medicine). In addition to her formal education, she also served two tours in Iraq as an Army Commander of a Forward Surgical Team and was promoted to the rank of Colonel. It was during her deployments and experience in trauma/critical care surgery that she discovered her passion for helping others regain confidence after life-threatening injuries.
Dr. Wright has held positions as an Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of Breast Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine and Associate Professor of Surgery, Chief of Breast Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.
